Working alongside Transport for London, with a view to selling the technology to other train operating companies, Travel Guardian is an app designed to improve train user’s journeys by finding the best route, providing real-time travel information and improving the communication with train operating companies.
In a connected world, how can we improve the customer experience of travellers while at the same time improving their relationship with TfL?
Travel Guardian finds the best route for customers depending on their preferences. This can be planned in advance with routes and times to and from the stations, or on the fly detecting what station you’re at or even what train you’ve already got on. With a growing implementation of location sensors on many trains and platforms, the app can suggest where on the platform you should wait and what carriage you should board for your preferences; for example quiet carriage, least crowded carriage or disabled access.
Real-time information from the network, as well as crowd-sourced feedback, provide the user with up to date relevant information on their journey, removing the barriers of communication that currently exist with the operating companies. To help encourage participation in crowd-sourced feedback, on each journey travellers are encouraged to quickly rate an aspect of their journey using a smiley system, taking just seconds. If they do want leave more feedback they are able to do so at any time.
